Mairead Flynn

Mairead has been involved in the study and practice of Yoga since 1971. In 1979 she was one of the first teachers in N.Ireland trained by Swami Satyamurti Saraswati. For the following 10 years she worked with Satyamurti as co-director of Bihar School of Yoga, Ireland. During this time she had opportunities to study in India and Singapore.

During the 1990’s Mairead explored many other approaches to human development. As well as formal study in Christian spirituality, she completed foundation studies in Psychosynthesis and Family Therapy. She qualified as a Stress Management Therapist and Teacher of Sacred Dance

By 2000, drawn to the teachings of TKV Desikachar, she started individual tuition with Hanne Gillespie, Director of Clonlea Yoga Studio in Blackrock. Convinced of the benefits of this approach she embarked on a new phase of study to become a registered aYs practitioner, under the direction of Paul Harvey at Yoganjali in Bristol.

Actively involved in the development of Yoga in Ireland, she is a committee member of the Northern Ireland Yoga Fellowship, and served for a time as secretary to The Yoga Federation of Ireland.
What is aYs?
The Association for Yoga Studies (aYs) is an organisation committed to the teachings of T Krishnamacharya as received through his son and pupil TKV Desikachar. Paul Harvey, a student of Desikachar since 1976, originally founded it (as Viniyoga Britain) in 1981. Within the UK and Ireland, aYs is the national professional body supporting those students who have undertaken at least 4 years of teaching and therapy training to qualify and become licensed as aYs Practitioners.
